Hale, Nathan
(6 jun. 1755, Coventry, Conn., EE.UU.–22 sep. 1776, Manhattan, N.Y.).

Oficial del ejército revolucionario durante la guerra de independencia de EE.UU. Luego de egresar de la Universidad de Yale, ejerció como maestro de escuela. En 1775 ingresó a un regimiento de Connecticut y tomó parte en el sitio de Boston. Ascendió a capitán en 1776 y participó en la toma de una chalupa británica de aprovisionamiento, en Long Island. Se presentó como voluntario para actuar de espía y penetró en las líneas británicas, pero, al regresar, fue capturado y ahorcado al día siguiente, sin juicio. Tenía 21 años de edad. Se dice que sus últimas palabras fueron: "Sólo lamento tener apenas una vida que perder por mi patria, observación parecida a la que figura en la pieza de teatro de Joseph Addison, Cato [Catón].
